Here's an actionable framework for finding your true ideal clients. Once you put this into practice, you begin to chase alignment instead of money. When you serve the people you're meant to serve, the money follows naturally.
Here's how:
During my health struggle, I realized success metrics had to include more than just revenue—they needed to account for energy, impact, and alignment with my values.
Start by examining your current clients:
âś… List your last 5 clients
âś… Rate each on a scale of 1-10 for:
❓Energy (do they energize or drain you?)
❓Results (how successful were their outcomes?)
❓Revenue (was the payment worth your time?)
Look for patterns in your highest and lowest scores.
Just like I discovered my unique value in bringing decade-long recurring revenue expertise to SaaS companies transitioning from one-time licenses, you need to understand exactly what makes your expertise uniquely valuable to your best clients.
❓What specific problems did they have when they found you?
❓What made them ready to solve these problems?
❓What unique perspective or experience do you have that helped them?
❓What values or beliefs do you share?
Each week in February, I've been delivering steps of the MRR Method.™ And if you'd like more, you can get our complete mini-course on sustainable growth—based on real-world experience—from successful creators just like you.
Get tips from top creators experiencing the same challenges.
Building Level Up Creators required me to deeply understand who I wanted to serve—experts who needed sophisticated business foundations but were often denied a seat at the table—and how my journey from workaholic to sustainable success leader uniquely positioned me to help them.
Note these specific elements with your own clients:
✔️Their current situation (be specific about their struggles)
✔️Their desired outcome (what transformation do they want?)
✔️Their mindset (what beliefs do they hold?)
✔️Their readiness indicators (how do you know they're prepared to succeed?)
Despite my previous high pay, I dreaded making wealthy companies wealthier because it didn't align with my own personal mission and values.
You might be serving the wrong ICP if:
đźš« You dread client calls
đźš« You're constantly explaining basic concepts
đźš« Clients resist your core methodology
đźš« You feel like you're pushing solutions uphill
đźš« Your marketing feels forced or inauthentic
When I began Level Up Creators, I had to completely reimagine my content to speak directly to expert creators who, like me, needed to build sustainable businesses that served their lives instead of consuming them.
1. Audit Your Content
âś… Does each piece speak to their specific challenges?
âś… Are you using their actual language?
âś… Are you addressing their real objections?
2. Review Your Offerings
âś… Do they solve your ICP's actual problems?
âś… Are they structured in a way your ICP can consume?
âś… Do they deliver the transformation your ICP wants?
3. Refine Your Marketing
âś… Where does your ICP actually spend their time?
âś… What questions are they really asking?
âś… What triggers their decision to seek help?
Take the exact words and phrases your ideal clients use and:
✔️Create content titles from their questions
✔️Use their language in your marketing
✔️Structure your offers around their actual buying journey
Remember: The riches are in the niches, but only if you choose the right niche for YOU.
Your Action Step: Block off 90 minutes this week to work through these exercises. Start with the reality check—I imagine you'll be surprised at what patterns emerge.
Coming in March: Get ready for March Madness—Pick Your MRR Team! We're breaking down the essential players you need on your roster to build a winning monthly recurring revenue business.
No brackets required, but a championship mindset is definitely encouraged! 🏆
